Niehoff assumes international representation of lead extruder and cable repair and recovery system manufacturer HFSABMaschinenfabrik Niehoff, one of the internationally leading manufacturers of machinery for the wire and cable industry, assumed as from April 1st 2010 the international representation of HFSAB, the world’s leading supplier of lead sheathing equipment to the cable industry, outside of the European Community with the exception of certain already established house accounts. HFSAB, known as H. Folke Sandelin AB and Hansson Robertson, was founded in the year 1958. HFSAB is part of the Canadian mining company Teck Cominco Metals Ltd and is headquarted in Motala, Sweden. It has specialized in the manufacturing of horizontal continuous lead extruders and cable repair and recovery systems. The Horizontal Continuous Lead Extruders developed and built by HFSAB are used to apply lead sheaths to submarine and underground power, communication and fibre optic cables as well as other special cables. The lead sheathing provides an excellent barrier to chemicals, oils, water and sulphides and lengthens the service life of cables. The extruders don’t require an expensive foundation pit and work fully automatic. HFSAB’s Cable Repair and Recovery System (CRRS) is a new development, which enables the repair of manufacturing faults by removing safely the outer jacket of PE, PVC, HDPE and other layers without any damage to the cable layer below it, thus enabling the outer jacket to be re-applied and the cable repaired. Alternatively the cable stripping machine can be used to strip a cable of up to 200 mm diameter back to bright conductor whereby this conductor can be re-used or scrapped at a much higher value than in its insulated form.
